Assembly
Morning assemblies in educational settings serve a very important purpose of celebrating the cultural diversity of the community and engaging in activities that nurture the feeling of belongingness. The Activity promotes learning and sharing of experiences thereby leading to inspiring and developing the personality of the students. Moreover, it set the tone for a fruitful day ahead.
HJ College Morning assembly is a platform for students to showcase their talents, exercise their leadership and enhance their knowledge and communication skills through the meaningful activities that are spread out throughout the week.
In the beginning of every year, leaders are identified and put in charge of the different activities such as - Speaking tree, Weekly news, Prayers and devotional song, Yoga, and relaxation. The prayer choir, National Anthem and laughter yoga groups are formed. The leader’s co-ordinate and plan out the whole week’s schedule and then conduct it, flawlessly. Every student has to participate in each and every programme compulsorily. At the end of the year all the leaders are awarded certificates in recognition of their contribution.
Students recite the college secular prayer. They also have the freedom to include other secular prayers of their choice in the assembly. For the Sarva Dharma Prarthana, students are encouraged to learn prayers of other religious faiths and recite. They are encouraged to sing devotional songs in the regional languages. All this is done to develop a respect for cultural and religious diversity and encourage national integration.
The Speaking Tree has inspirational stories of heroes and their achievements in spite of barriers, significant days of the week like Earth Day, World Down’s Syndrome Day, World’s HIV AIDS Day, International Mother Language Day(Practically every day of the year is recognised for some important cause),the weekly News help in creating awareness of current affairs & important local and global events. The activity develops empathy and sensitivity in the student teachers.
Special Morning Assemblies are also observed during Events and occasions like International Women’s Day, International Day of Yoga, Sustainable Environment Week, Marathi Bhasha Diwas, Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat, Reflections of Practice Teaching (after Internship) and so on.
The activities are revised and changed from time to time to suit the need of the hour.
A typical week of Morning Assembly is given below:
2019-20
Monday: Secular prayer, National Anthem, Chanting of devotional song, Relaxation exercise
Tuesday: Prayer, National Anthem, Speaking tree, Relaxation exercise
Wednesday: Prayer, National Anthem, Yoga
Thursday: Prayer, Speaking Tree (on any Special Day that fell in the week), National Anthem,
Friday: ‘Sarvadahrma Prarthana’, National Anthem
Saturday: Prayer, National Anthem, The World this Week (Weekly News) and Laughter Yoga.
2020-21
During the Pandemic, Online Morning Assembly was carried out on Zoom. The weekly Assembly had certain new introductions along with the usual. The new initiatives are as follows:
Sharing of story of an Inspirational Teacher /educational initiative/Educational Institution
Book Review/Multiple Perspectives around a topic.
2021-22
Blended Morning assembly- Certain days Online and others in Face-to-face mode.
New initiatives were ‘Unusual Professions and sharing Powerful universal phrases/words in global languages and its meaning.
2022-23
In this year students introduced ‘Visit to Exotic Places’.
Besides, sharing daily ‘Word and idiom of the day ‘ which they have to use in their conversation during the day.
At the end of every month a quiz on everything shared during the Assembly is carried out online, to test the keenness of the skill of listening of the student teachers.
